About your host

I have been a lawyer for the last 30 years. Four years into my career, I burned out. My career start was rocky, but I was willing to break rocks and I worked myself into a partnership before I was thirty. Suddenly, I had everything I thought I wanted. And it felt empty. I thought the problem was with me-was I depressed, entitled, lazy, or indulgent? It turns out that the problem-and the solution-belonged to me. I was expecting to feel a certain way when I reached specific milestones in my life. But with every milestone, after the short buzz of achievement wore off, there I was, feeling exactly the same. I returned to work, as I was taught from a young age that work would solve all my problems.
At 43, I tore my vertebral artery and had a stroke. I had to re-learn how to walk, dress, and feed myself. After a year, I was able to drive a car again.
I had to give up most of the activities that defined my life. Except one-my career. I learned to write again and learned to type with one hand. I threw myself back into workaholism. My life-changing event failed to change my life! It took me another few years to realize that no one was coming to save me.
I hired a coach and realized the value of having someone else help me clarify my thoughts and feelings. The transformational power of coaching changed my life and caused me to become a coach. I am a Certified Coach through the Life Coach School and a Certified Professional
Coach through the Institute for Professional Excellence in Coaching ("IPEC").
I now know that I can feel however I want to feel most of the time. Most of the time, I feel good. This reality is available to anyone with a little guidance and a little practice.
